nucleareurope discusses advocacy work with students

This week, nucleareurope participated in multiple sessions of discussions with students, in various settings. On Tuesday 3 February, Communications and Advocacy Director Jessica Johnson spoke with students and professionals from French business school EDHEC, and on Thursday 5 February, Public Policy students from the French ‘Ecole des Ponts’ exchanged with staff on nucleareurope’s activities, as part of a study visit.

The discussions were an opportunity to discuss a variety of topics, including nuclear’s role in the EU energy system, nucleareurope’s activities, recent policy developments and public support for nuclear.

In her interventions, Jessica outlined the contributions of the nuclear industry to the European economy, noting that nuclear, as the single largest source of decarbonised electricity in Europe, generated close to a quarter of the continent’s power in 2025. She also gave an overview of evolutions in the EU policy framework, mentioning past milestone legislation such as the inclusion of nuclear in the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy.

Jessica further highlighted that alongside an evolving policy landscape, opinions on nuclear across Europe are shifting, with public support for nuclear growing, and many Member States announcing plans for the extension of existing capacities and for new build.

The interactive exchanges allowed the students to address many different questions, and build an understanding of how a European industrial association functions. It was also an opportunity to highlight the role of advocacy to ensure that the industry’s interests are always represented in policy discussions.
