nucleareurope Legal & International Affairs Director discusses professional journey at Women in PEJ webinar

​On 4 February 2026, nucleareurope Legal and International Affairs Director Berta Picamal participated in a webinar organised by the “Women in PEJ” initiative, launched by PEJ Management Board Vice President Bogumiła Ożarska – Karbowiak, with whom Berta met bilaterally after the event. The webinar addressed women’s health, mental health, work-life balance and professional development.

In her intervention, Berta came back on her close to 3 decade long career, from her time at the European Commission and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to her current position in nucleareurope. She highlighted the role of key decisions in her career, which has seen her stay in the nuclear sector throughout.

Berta also shared advice on confidence building, especially in highly strategic and technical industries. She specifically stressed the importance of finding one’s voice, and asserting one’s professional expertise.

After noting the importance of supporting women in professional settings, and detailing her personal journey, Berta concluded her intervention with an encouragement to all young women starting their career in the nuclear sector, inspiring them to aim for leadership roles.

After the event, Berta had a bilateral meeting with PEJ Management Board Vice President Bogumiła Ożarska – Karbowiak, to discuss nuclear developments in Poland, after the European Commission approved state aid for Poland’s first nuclear power plant, which will be built by PEJ.
