nucleareurope participates in IAEA Technical Meeting on supply chain and procurement management
On 29 October 2025, nucleareurope Policy Director Andrei Goicea and Nuclear Technology Advisor Guilherme Cardoso participated in a Vienna-held Technical Meeting on current topics in nuclear supply chain and procurement management, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
As part of the event, nucleareurope intervened in the opening panel, on the topic of reliable nuclear power plant operation and the role of the supply chain, and in a session which explored how to build a solid supply chain in different market areas.
In the opening session, nucleareurope Policy Director Andrei Goicea discussed the projected growth of installed nuclear capacity in Europe, which could reach close to 150 Gigawatts (GW) by 2050, compared to 100GW today, and highlighted the importance of building up a resilient supply chain to support all projects, whether it be lifetime extension of existing power plants, large new build, or Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs).
The second session in which nucleareurope intervened explored the question of how to build a solid supply chain in different market areas. The panel discussion, in which Andrei participated, was moderated by nucleareurope Technology Advisor Guilherme Cardoso. It gathered panellists from the private sector and industry associations to delve into initiatives to support the nuclear supply chain and speed up new build projects.
As part of the panel, Andrei specifically highlighted the work of the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors, which includes a supply chain technical working group. He further stressed the importance of the supply chain for the development and deployment of SMRs projects in Europe.
