nucleareurope meets with wide range of nuclear stakeholders in Spain
From 5 to 8 May 2026, nucleareurope Legal and International Relations Director Berta Picamal travelled to Spain to meet with nucleareurope members, visit nuclear facilities and engage with nuclear stakeholders in bilateral meetings.
Following a visit of the Vandellós II nuclear power plant, and a meeting with the management Board of ANAV (nuclear operator Ascó and Vandellós, in Tarragona, Spain) on 5 May, Berta gave a presentation on nuclear’s role in the EU energy system at the Westinghouse Corporate Day, held on 6 May. She specifically discussed the contributions of nuclear to energy system stability, energy affordability and decarbonisation. She also detailed the positive shift in the political discourse around nuclear at EU level, and presented nucleareurope’s recently released Policy Action Plan. She also had the chance to visit the AP1000 simulator, located in Westinghouse Spain HQ.
On 7 May, Berta met with Foro Nuclear President Marta Ugalde, and addressed Foro Nuclear members in a meeting where she presented nucleareurope’s role, and discussed the current dynamic for nuclear in Europe as well as key policy files. She also had bilateral exchanges with Iberdrola and Endesa Chief Nuclear Officers. During the meetings, Berta specifically addressed key policy priorities for nucleareurope, including the Multiannual Financial Framework, Accelerate EU, the 2040 Climate Framework as well as the F-Gas/PFAS regulation. Berta then attended the Women in Nuclear Spain 30th Anniversary event, held in the evening.
Concluding the week, Berta met with the Enusa management Board on 8 May, to discuss both Enusa and nucleareurope’s priorities for 2026, as well as recent advocacy activities.
