nucleareurope participates in Nuclear Fission Energy Technology Platform event

On 16 January 2024, nucleareurope Director General Yves Desbazeille gave a keynote address during the General Assembly of CEIDEN (Nuclear Fission Energy Technology Platform) in Madrid, Spain. The focus of his intervention was the change in paradigm which is happening in Europe.

During his presentation he presented the latest developments in terms of EU decarbonisation policy, focusing on the EU Green Deal and the climate targets which have been set.  As part of this, he indicated the important role which electrification will play, as well as needs in terms decarbonised heat and hydrogen. At the same time, he pointed to the growing importance of ensuring security of energy supplies and reducing energy imports.

Yves then provided an overview of how Member States view nuclear and the fact that many a rethinking their policies in this respect, given the need to decarbonise whilst ensuring security of supplies. In this respect, he presented the target set by the Nuclear Alliance of Member States which envisages 150 GW of installed nuclear capacity in the EU by 2050.
