nucleareurope participates in Reuters Events Energy Transition Europe 2026

On 20 and 21 October, nucleareurope Communications & Advocacy Director Jessica Johnson and Vice-Chair of the nucleareurope Policy Committee Daniel Mesic participated in Reuters Events’ 2026 Energy Transition Europe conference. The event brought together senior energy leaders to discuss the future of the European energy transition.

As part of the event Jessica moderated a panel session entitled “Can Nuclear Help Power Europe’s AI and Data Centre Boom?” and animated an interactive roundtable exploring pathways to overcome energy security challenges in Europe.

The first panel detailed the benefits of nuclear for powering data centres, with nuclear’s stable power generation matching well with the consumption model of data centres. Panellists, which included both supply (Great British Nuclear, Fermi Energia) and demand (Microsoft, Terra Innovatum) side representatives, addressed deployment needs, financing challenges and AI opportunities for the nuclear sector.

Following the panel, Jessica animated an interactive roundtable session, which allowed participants to discuss how Europe can develop an energy system which answers security of supply, climate and affordability challenges. Key topics addressed included clean energy demand, financing, public acceptance and the role of policy makers.

“Europe needs a policy frameworks which accelerates the deployment of all clean energy sources and stimulates demand” stressed Jessica during the session, adding that upcoming policies have a key role to play in ensuring the development of a balanced, affordable energy system.

In her concluding remarks, Jessica noted that nuclear, alongside renewables, will keep strongly contributing to Europe’s energy system as it moves towards net zero, by providing a stable supply of decarbonised electricity and heat to consumers.
