nucleareurope participates in WiN Europe second regional event

On 21 and 22 September 2026, nucleareurope Communications & Advocacy Director Jessica Johnson participated in the Women in Nuclear (WiN) Europe second regional event, hosted in Baden, Switzerland, by WiN’s Swiss chapter.

As part of the event, Jessica intervened in a panel session held on the conference’s first day, covering the role of communications in the nuclear sector. In her intervention, Jessica insisted on the importance of public acceptance for the success of nuclear projects, and discussed key drivers for public trust in nuclear.

“When it comes to nuclear new build, public acceptance can make or break a project. It is vital that project developers engage in a conversation with the local communities as early as possible to develop an understanding of potential concerns and build trust between all involved stakeholders” highlighted Jessica. She added that engaging in a dialogue with the local community is much more effective than top-down communication from industry.

Jessica then noted that activities such as stakeholders’ events or townhall meetings should be organised to fit the schedules of local communities and aim to be as inclusive as possible. She stressed that facilitating women’s participation is for example vital.

Concluding her intervention, Jessica gave a broader picture of public acceptance of nuclear across Europe. She detailed recent evolutions in EU member States, which have seen an increase in public support for nuclear, often reflected at the political level.
