Nuclear Science Communication Award

Please note that only applications from candidates nominated by a third party will be accepted.
ENEN2plus consortium is awarding a person, institute or public initiative making efforts to communicate in a popular, correct and non-biasing way about nuclear science and technology.
The award is open to all upon nomination from a third party (e.g., science communicator, journalist, educator, researcher)
Selection criteria
The science communication award is intended for activities to encourage pupils to consider STEM subjects and students to consider nuclear studies. The following selection criteria apply:
- Scientific accuracy
- Clear presentation of scientifically accurate and up-to-date information.
- Avoidance of misinformation or oversimplification without losing clarity.
- Clarity and accessibility
- Ability to explain complex nuclear concepts in a clear, engaging, and easily understandable manner.
- Use of language and formats that cater to both expert and non-expert audiences.
- Innovation and creativity
- Use of innovative communication methods (e.g., multimedia, social media campaigns, podcasts, public talks, etc.).
- Creative approaches that make nuclear science appealing and memorable.
- Impact and Reach
- Evidence of audience engagement, reach, and influence (e.g., views, shares, media coverage, public responses).
- Demonstrated impact on public understanding or policy discussions.
- Balance and fairness
- Objective and non-biased presentation that reflects different perspectives on nuclear science and technology.
- Avoidance of advocacy or lobbying for specific stakeholders.
- Sustainability and long-term commitment
- Ongoing commitment to nuclear science communication beyond one-off projects.
- Development of educational resources with lasting value.

Award
nucleareurope will make a donation to a charity chosen by the winning entity.

Procedure
Two awards are proposed namely the award by the jury and the award by the public.
For the public award, the jury can prepare a short list if the number of nominees is big.
A summary page of each nominee for the public award will be published and made available to the public together with the voting link. This summary page will be made based on the information provided in the description and motivation letter.
The selection of the jury award laureate is done based on the selection criteria and the provided documents.

Selection by the jury and public voting start: May 2026
Deadline for public vote: 22 May 2026
Award ceremony: 29 May 2026
