nucleareurope participates in 100TWh Annual Conference
On 9 September 2025, nucleareurope Director General Emmanuel Brutin participated in the 100TWh – a citizens’ association promoting an environmentally and economically sustainable energy transition – Annual Conference, taking place in Brussels.
As part of the event, Emmanuel gave a presentation on ongoing nuclear investments across the EU and nuclear financing. He specifically highlighted the scale of future investment plans in nuclear energy, with installed nuclear capacity in the EU projected to reach close to 150 Gigawatt (GW) by 2050, compared to around 100GW today.
“The projected increase in nuclear capacity in the EU will come with major benefits in terms of decarbonisation, energy affordability, security of supply and competitiveness. However, with significant investments planned across the whole nuclear value chain, a stable policy framework which supports the growth of the sector will be key to deliver on new projects” stressed Emmanuel, noting that a long-term vision is essential for the financing of nuclear projects.
Emmanuel concluded his intervention by giving an overview of the specificities of nuclear financing, and detailing policy needs – these include technology neutrality, acceleration of State Aid approval procedures, the inclusion of nuclear in the next Multiannual Financial Framework, including an increased budget for fission under EURATOM, as well as the removal of nuclear exclusions in existing EU funds.
