nucleareurope participates in White & Case – Exergon joint event on nuclear investments

On 27 November 2025, nucleareurope Policy Director Andrei Goicea participated in a Paris-held event on nuclear investments, co-organised by White & Case and Exergon. The event brought together investors, legal experts and industrial stakeholders to exchange on nuclear sector developments and funding opportunities.

As part of the event, Andrei participated in a panel discussion on the status of the nuclear sector in Europe, and specifically discussed Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies. He detailed the sector’s needs to accelerate SMR development in Europe, and gave an overview of existing initiatives, such as the European Industrial Alliance on SMRs.

“The first SMRs are set to be deployed in Europe in the 2030s, but a number of key challenges remain, in terms of financing for example, as well as supply chain development” noted Andrei, adding that policy support is essential to attract investments and ensure the resilience of the supply chain.

Andrei then detailed the European Industrial Alliance on SMRs activities, noting that the Alliance has published its Strategic Action Plan earlier this year, and will soon hold its first Stakeholder Forum. He stressed the importance of the Alliance to foster collaboration between various actors across the SMR value chain, before giving an overview of planned activities and future objectives.

Concluding his intervention, Andrei insisted on the importance of a stable, technology neutral policy framework to support investments in nuclear technologies. In this regard, he specifically noted the role of upcoming policy initiatives, such the European Commission Communication on SMRs.
