Nucleareurope welcomes £14.2 billion investment in Sizewell C
Brussels, 10 June 2025: nucleareurope welcomes the UK government’s decision to invest £14.2 billion in the Sizewell C nuclear power plant, as part of its spending review.
“This decision will bring a significant boost as it is expected to lead to the creation of 10,000 jobs including 1,500 apprenticeships” highlights nucleareurope Director General, Emmanuel Brutin. “This demonstrates the UK’s confidence in the essential role which nuclear plays in ensuring reliable, clean electricity and meeting the climate targets” he adds.
Furthermore, £2.5 billion has been committed to the overall small modular reactor programme, with the preferred bidder selected to partner with Great British Nuclear (GBN) – a project which could potentially support up to 3,000 new skilled jobs and power the equivalent of around 3 million homes with clean, secure homegrown energy.
About us: nucleareurope is the Brussels-based trade association for the nuclear energy industry in Europe.
The membership of nucleareurope is made up of 15 national nuclear associations (EU + Switzerland, UK and Ukraine) and through these associations, nucleareurope represents nearly 3,000 European companies working in the industry and supporting around 1,100,000 jobs.
