German nuclear industry association latest to join nucleareurope, as Europe sees ever-increasing interest in nuclear energy

Feb 16, 2026 | Press Release

Brussels, 16 February 2026: Close to 15 years after the country decided to shut down its nuclear power plants, the German nuclear industry association (KernD) has joined nucleareurope as a full member, further expanding the association’s membership.

The growing membership of nucleareurope is a testament to the strong momentum around nuclear energy across European member States” states nucleareurope Director General Emmanuel Brutin. “Nuclear is a truly European net-zero value chain, and it is very positive to see the European industry coming together to strengthen cooperation and make its voice heard across the EU”.

Although Germany does not currently operate any nuclear power plants, the country houses multiple supply chain and fuel cycle companies. It plays a key role in the European nuclear value chain, especially as the political landscape in the country is evolving towards a more positive framework for nuclear.

The integration of KernD comes as nucleareurope welcomed additional new members in 2025 of which IGEOS Nuclear, created to respond to the needs of Polish companies in the energy sector interested in participating in the construction of the 1st nuclear power plant in the country. Alongside the 2 national associations, nucleareurope welcomed, in 2025: Walter Tosto (Italy), Hexana (France), Steady Energy (Finland), Enusa (Spain), Westinghouse and  GE Vernova; and in early 2026, CRH, leading provider of building materials.
